MOLINACCIO TOWER
| | Located on a mount in between Talamone and Capo D’Uomo Tower, Molinaccio tower is nowadays reduced only to a circular base with a small pointed arched door. Despite having being called Tower only recently, this building, as Caciagli affirms (1), was a mill and therefore could not be considered part of the defensive system. In the work by Cammarosano and Passeri, it is cited only as Ruins ( Rudere) (2). The small door facing the sea could have been a distinctive element of its civil use, as in all the towers the access is always towards the most protected area and positioned above the base. In Leopold’s Land Register ( Catasto Leopoldino) in the Grosseto State Archives ( Archivio di State di Grosseto) (3), the building is included in the section A of Orbetello District ( Comune Of Orbetello), at the heading 107: in the indicative tables it is the property of Stoppa Eugenio of Natale ( in the original Italian “pastura di propieta’ di Stoppa Eugenio di Natale”). The corresponding cadastral map was dated February 1824 and it was drawn up by the land surveyor Luigi Baglini. See references 1 G. Caciagli, Stato dei Presidi, cit., p.71 2 P. Cammatosano, V. Passeri, I Castelli, cit., vol. n., p. 348. 3 ASG, Catasto Leopoldino, Orbetello Community, section A of Talamone. | |
